Lynda
McClellan has been attending First Baptist Church (FBC) for four
years now. She works the multimedia ministry at the church and
offers assistance in other areas as well. McClellan moved to the
area in search of a church home, but unfortunately she started
becoming turned off by her other selections.
At
one church, the Christian single says, she started not being able to
understand what the leader was saying during service. His speech
became confusing to hear and she felt some racist undertones from
people within the church—there wasn't many minorities attending.
She was uncomfortable and felt the Spirit within her cautioning that
the church she was attending at the time wasn't “the one.”
Her
father advised she should attend FBC and so one day she decided to
take his advice. So she did. Lynda enjoyed coming and found that
the church was a good fit for her. However, Lynda warns, “There is
no such thing as a perfect church!” All have their share of
challenges.
Lynda
believes in the Bible and so do the members at FBC. There are
Wednesday bible studies, prayer service, Sunday school, and special
events to help draw people closer to Jesus. In addition, many
ministries are available at FBC including: music, women, men,
children's, evangelism, ushers, and more. One of the first groups
Lynda joined at the church was the meal program. She served the
homeless population with free meals. While doing that, Lynda was
unemployed and that wasn't her only struggle, she also discovered she
had tumors.
The
health woe was growing in size, the tumors were rapidly increasing
and there was no stopping their growth. Lynda continued to pray and
trust God during her trials. She visited doctors, but they would
tell her nothing was wrong. The prayer warrior was eating healthy
and her pap smear was normal, but still her health problems
persisted.
One
day Lynda, who is child-free, received a medical report after
undergoing testing, her blood results had come back and she was asked
by a nurse to return to the hospital. The report showed she was
anemic.
Lynda
questioned the seriousness of her condition, because the doctors
hadn't told her until she asked. They explained she was walking
around with half the blood in her body. Although not in pain, it was
essential that she undergo immediate surgery. Lynda believes God
moved on those doctors to call for surgery and as a result she no
longer suffers with tumors to date.
Lynda
refers back to the biblical story about the woman who had an issue of
blood and reached out to Jesus for healing. She too needed help.
Lynda feels that Jesus was there with her too! After her long
recovery from the surgery, Lynda was back to work. She credits God
for favor to obtain employment after being unemployed for quite
awhile.
Jesus
is indeed a miracle worker, a healer and a personal friend!
Won't
you come to FBC and be encouraged by listening to more stories like
Lynda's? God bless.
