Church History 1997-2002

1997-2000 - Reverend Derrick Lewis served as Pastor of First Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Pastor Lewis, Reverend Jimmy Terry and Reverend Joe Pearson united with the church and Deacon Jessie Hawkins was added to the Deacon Board. Remodeling of the church was completed, which included the building of the financial office, remodeling of the kitchen, women's restroom and baptismal area.

2001-2002 - Reverend Virgil Jones served as Pastor. Under the leadership of Pastor Jones, the Youth Usher Board, Junior Deacons and Sunshine Review were started, as well as other programs to develop the youth. He also instituted Member of the Month, and the prestigious Scobey Award, which was given to the member of the year. Members also ratified the church's By-laws and Constitution. Sisters Adela Collins, Ruby Gold, and Angela Vernon were added to the Board of Trustees. In November 2002,ordination services were held for Reverend Richard Spicer and Reverend Sky Hall. Pastor Jones served as pastor for one year until he was called to minister at his home church in Los Angeles.
