Church History 2003-2010
2003-2009
-
Reverend Ricardo O. Crocker served as Pastor. Under Pastor Crocker's
leadership, the congregation continued with its desire to beautify
the sanctuary, which included painting, carpet installation and
refurbishing of the pews. Brother Norman Ross was added to the Board
of Trustees. Under Pastor Crocker's leadership, the church was
blessed with new associate ministers: Rev. Alvin Mitchell, Rev.
John Crocker Sr. and Rev. Blackwell. In 2004, Brother Jimmy Williams
were added to the Trustee Board and Deacons William Brown, Lamar
Thompson and Claude Johnson were added to the Deacon Board. Sadly on
March 22, 2009, Pastor Ricardo Crocker was called home to glory.
March
22, 2009 - February 22, 2010,
the church was without a pastor; however members remained encouraged
and prayerful as the church went through the process of selecting a
pastor. On February 26, 2010, Pastor Ronnie E. Herrell was elected
as pastor and installation services were held on May 23, 2010.
March 7, 2010 to Present - Under Pastor Herrell's guidance and leadership, new ministries were started, such as Friday Night Live (a ministry for youth and adults), the Outreach Ministry (a feeding ministry), and the Men's Ministry. We also saw reformation of children's church and the Pastor Aide's Ministry. Deacon Ray Jenkins was added to the Deacon Board and Sisters Camilla Garner, Linda Spicer, Audrey Johnson, and Pamela Russell were added to the Board of Trustees. In 2013, additional ministries were added such as mid-day Bible Study class, Angel's ministry and the Amigo Ministry.
We give all Thanks and Glory to God, for His continuous blessings upon this congregation. May He continue to bless and keep us in His perfect will.

Church History 1973-1996
1973-1990
-
Reverend Alfred Norris Jr. served as pastor 1973 until 1975. In 1975
Reverend Bennie Mosley Jr. was elected as pastor. Under Pastor
Moseley's leadership, the church saw many changes including paying
off the first and second mortgages on the church and numerous other
bills. The Lord blessed Pastor Mosley to ordain Deacons Leslie
Monroe, Charlie Jones, Hardie Lee, Homer Williams, Jackie Washington,
Gusie Cross, W.A. Wilson, Ellis Logans, Theran Butler and Earl Smith.
On August 16, 1990, after 14 1/2 years, Pastor Mosley gave his
resignation as he and his family relocated to Indpendence, Kansas.
1991-1996
-
Reverend Lewis Young Jr. served as pastor. In 1992, Richard Spicer
and Leonard Kerr were ordained as Deacons. In 1994, Pastor Young
added Alvin Johnson, Theodore West, Thomas Robinson, and Darnell Ross
to the Deacon Board. Pastor Young remained with First Baptist until
October 1994. Reverend Derrick Lewis was placed in charge of the
pulpit while the church was without a pastor.
Church History 1940-1972
1940-1964
-
Reverend H.G. Adams, Reverend Haggerty and Reverend Daniels served as
pastors of First Baptist. These were very prosperous years
financially for the church and the membership grew tremendously.
1964-1972
-
Reverend Hezekiah Lewis served as pastor of First Baptist Church.
Shortly after Pastor Lewis was called to First Baptist, the freeway
system bought most of the property on Elder Street, and the church
moved to its present location at 2200 Huntington Drive. The inside
and outside of the building was designed by Pastor Lewis and under
his leadership, the building was remodeled. Through Reverend Lewis'
interest in the history of First Baptist and his wish to have the
church incoporate, he checked the County Hall of Records and found
out that First Baptist was started and incorporated on May 13, 1884,
with the names of five deacons and five trustees. Reverend Lewis
obtained a copy of the transcript for the church records. Pastor
Lewis remained with the church for eight years until he moved to
another ministry.

FBC Member Shares Praise Report and Her Trust in Jesus
Lynda
McClellan has been attending First Baptist Church (FBC) for four
years now. She works the multimedia ministry at the church and
offers assistance in other areas as well. McClellan moved to the
area in search of a church home, but unfortunately she started
becoming turned off by her other selections.
At
one church, the Christian single says, she started not being able to
understand what the leader was saying during service. His speech
became confusing to hear and she felt some racist undertones from
people within the church—there wasn't many minorities attending.
She was uncomfortable and felt the Spirit within her cautioning that
the church she was attending at the time wasn't “the one.”
Her
father advised she should attend FBC and so one day she decided to
take his advice. So she did. Lynda enjoyed coming and found that
the church was a good fit for her. However, Lynda warns, “There is
no such thing as a perfect church!” All have their share of
challenges.
Lynda
believes in the Bible and so do the members at FBC. There are
Wednesday bible studies, prayer service, Sunday school, and special
events to help draw people closer to Jesus. In addition, many
ministries are available at FBC including: music, women, men,
children's, evangelism, ushers, and more. One of the first groups
Lynda joined at the church was the meal program. She served the
homeless population with free meals. While doing that, Lynda was
unemployed and that wasn't her only struggle, she also discovered she
had tumors.
The
health woe was growing in size, the tumors were rapidly increasing
and there was no stopping their growth. Lynda continued to pray and
trust God during her trials. She visited doctors, but they would
tell her nothing was wrong. The prayer warrior was eating healthy
and her pap smear was normal, but still her health problems
persisted.
One
day Lynda, who is child-free, received a medical report after
undergoing testing, her blood results had come back and she was asked
by a nurse to return to the hospital. The report showed she was
anemic.
Lynda
questioned the seriousness of her condition, because the doctors
hadn't told her until she asked. They explained she was walking
around with half the blood in her body. Although not in pain, it was
essential that she undergo immediate surgery. Lynda believes God
moved on those doctors to call for surgery and as a result she no
longer suffers with tumors to date.
Lynda
refers back to the biblical story about the woman who had an issue of
blood and reached out to Jesus for healing. She too needed help.
Lynda feels that Jesus was there with her too! After her long
recovery from the surgery, Lynda was back to work. She credits God
for favor to obtain employment after being unemployed for quite
awhile.
Jesus
is indeed a miracle worker, a healer and a personal friend!
Won't
you come to FBC and be encouraged by listening to more stories like
Lynda's? God bless.

A Church with a History of Baptismals, Testimonies, and Most of All Love
Located at 2200 Huntington Drive, Duarte CA, the 3,000 square foot complex seats approximately 150 people. Weddings and burial services have taken place at this church in addition to traditional worship, bible studies, and other life-changing activities.
When it comes to describing what FBC is all about, the slogan is simple, "A church where we love people, teach people and praise God in the process," according to Ronnie E. Herrell, Pastor. The church logo reiterates the same message.
Like with many churches, FBC has seen people come and go over the years due to many factors from personal relocations to death. Yet despite these obstacles, the church has a dedicated and approachable pastor and a friendly bible-believing team of volunteers.
To date, the group continues to assist visitors with a variety of spiritual services including free meals served on Wednesdays at noon.
